"Then Moses said to the Israelites, "See the Lord has chosen Bezalel ... and filled him with the Spirit of God,... to engage in all kinds of artistic craftsmanship.  And he has given both him and Oholoab ... the ability to teach others.  He has filled them with the skill to do all kinds of work as craftsmen, designers and embroiders."
     - Exodus
        35:30-34
In God's instructions to Moses for the Tabernacle, over 275 verses in Exodus 25 thru 39 are given to the detailed design and specifications to be followed.  The instructions were important enough to be given and then repeated.  The vision was clearly dictated, but yet God set apart Bezalel and Oholoab for their leadership in design and construction.  Why then would you trust the vision of the future of your church to people unskilled in the process of design and construction of church facilities?

FEATURED PROJECT
WOOLSEY BAPTIST CHURCH

CHILDREN'S BUILDING
Woolsey, Georgia

Chuck Chambers,
Pastor

This 13,000 square foot building provides expanded opportunities for the church to minister to its children.  There are 11 new classrooms with 4 combining together into a large central space that has an AWANA's court and is capable of holding 150 children.

Large corridors and welcome areas connect the new children's addition to the existing sanctuary building, also designed by FSF Architects.  The renovations include an expanded office area and connectors to the new facilities.  Construction was completed by Lusk Associates of Alpharetta.

Visit this project and others on our website.

FEATURED ARTICLE
What would it cost to replace your building?
      by Robert C. Foreman, President

Do you know how much it would cost to replace your building? Replacement cost is something every building owner ought to know because if you do not have enough insurance coverage, you may not be able to rebuild the same size or quality of facility lost in a fire or other disaster.  This sometimes happens to institutions other than churches, but churches seem to have a problem keeping their insurance coverage up with actual replacement cost.

If your buildings are less than twenty years old, it will not be hard to find out what it will cost to rebuild. Find out what similar space will cost to build on a square foot basis, calculate your present square footage and then do the math. Notify your insurance carrier that you want total replacement coverage. They may also provide an appraisal service to recommend coverage limits.

Replacement cost of older buildings will require careful evaluation because codes and standards have changed so much. In older buildings, replacement of actual functional space (classrooms, fellowship hall, sanctuary, etc.) will probably require more square footage than was actually lost.

If you need to determine replacement cost, or if you might need to take steps to remodel, upgrade or replace older facilities, you should seek the services of an architect experienced in the planning and design of church buildings.

PROJECT IN PROGRESS
COLONIAL HILLS BAPTIST CHURCH

Douglasville, Georgia

A.D.E. Builders of Marietta began construction this month on the new education and fellowship expansion for Colonial Hills Baptist.  Don Mathis of Capstone LLC is the project Manager for the Church.

The proposed building is an addition of 6,000 square feet.  The upper level includes nursery, restrooms, and a large foyer.  The lower level is unfinished, but will include a catering kitchen and fellowship hall.  Renovations to the sanctuary will expand seating to 325 and refinish the interior.  Completion of this $700,000 project is expected in the Summer of 2002.

NEWS AT FSF ARCHITECTS
Central Baptist Church in Gainesville celebrated the dedication of their Fellowship Atrium and Elevator on November 26th.  The project created an important foyer between three existing buildings and provides handicap access to all levels.  It is also a significant step in the downtown Gainesville revitalization project.  It was constructed by Tabernacle Builders of Villa Rica.

Congratulations to our intern architect Anne Marie Vawter and her husband Ian on the birth of their second child, Julia Rose Vawter, on December 9th.
