"... I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it.  But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, ..."
     - 1 Corinthians
          10,11 (NIV)

Our buildings, like our lives, are shaped by an unchangeable history, A firm plan made from proper planning  provides a strong foundation and a clear future direction.

Once a direction has been set, it takes tremendous resources to vastly change that direction.  What you do now has a bearing on all future facilities.

Allow FSF to help create a firm foundation in both your site and building plans.

FIRST
BAPTIST CHURCH

Tucker, Georgia

First Baptist Church dedicated a new recreation facility this Spring.  The site provided several challenges to the design of the facility.  The first was that the building is an addition to an existing grocery store constructed in the 1950's.  Demolition of the existing structure was not a possibility since a new street had been added, placing the existing building two feet over the new property line.  A 35 foot set back for a new building would lose 6,000 square feet of usable building space.

Secondly, the building needed its own identity, yet had to blend with the context of Main Street in downtown Tucker.  Large windows on the ground floor, second floor windows and brick relate to the local vernacular.  Another consideration for the large span of glass across the front ground level was the adjacent high school.

The open gymnasium, with a visual connection from the street, was designed to draw teenagers from the school and introduce them to church programs.  During the day it is used by many church members for walking and other recreational activities.  The central check-in desk allows for a person to observe building entry points, waiting areas, recreation areas and all other areas of the facility.

The 12,000 square foot building was completed by A.D.E. Builders of Marietta for a construction cost of $1,000,000.

Master Planning by Jeffery M. Seeley

A master plan is a conceptual layout for a site. It outlines a logical phased growth plan and indicates the maximum potential usage of a site, providing a road map for future growth for a complex. The goal of a Master Plan is to provide reasonable current development while keeping in mind future developments. However, a master site plan is not an attempt to generate a floor plan for every future building.

Anyone who is considering a new site should at least have a feasibility site study completed.  Often, a "30 acres for the price of 10" bargain is actually 8 usable acres for the price of 10. The quick study reveals the true potential of the site and will help avoid buying worthless or overly difficult sites. Every site should be planned before the first phase of construction. Without planning, many times a building phase is placed in a location that hinders future development.

A site should also be reviewed before each phase of construction. Businesses, communities, ministries and zoning requirements change over time. Therefore, the long range goals of the site will also change. A master plan is nothing more than a snapshot in time of current conditions and ministries.

PROJECT IN PROGRESS
AIR LINE BAPTIST CHURCH

Gainesville, Georgia

The schematic design for Air Line Baptist Church has just been completed.  The building consists of a 700+ seat sanctuary with a 77 person choir  and  24 person orchestra.  Future expansion has been planned by the incorporation of a structure that allows a balcony to be added when the main floor reaches capacity.

Renovations of the existing sanctuary will provide for a choir practice room, classroom, foyers and a library.  The scenic site, located atop a flattened hilltop, will also allow the 100 foot tall steeple to be seen for several miles.

The 15,000 square foot facility has a projected construction budget of $1,800,000 including the site work.
